Week 19: Gender Reveal & Registry Building
You probably know the sex now — time to finalize the registry
If you found out the sex at the anatomy scan, this week is often about processing that news, possibly sharing it, and using the momentum to finalize the baby registry. If you're staying team green (not finding out), you're just focused on the registry. Either way, the list needs to be done before the baby shower invites go out.
What's happening this week
The baby is developing vernix caseosa — a waxy, cheese-like coating that protects the skin from the amniotic fluid. The brain is designating areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. The baby now has a regular sleep-wake cycle, which she may start to notice in the pattern of kicks.
Your checklist
0 of 4 completeIf you started the registry at week 14, it's time to complete it. Cover all categories: feeding (bottles, pump if breastfeeding), diapering, sleep (crib sheets, swaddles, sound machine), gear (car seat, stroller), and clothing (newborn + 0–3 month sizes).
If you haven't picked these yet, do it now. Many parents go with a travel system (matching car seat + stroller base). Key factors: safety ratings, weight, ease of folding, and whether it fits in your car.
Baby showers typically happen between weeks 28–34. Someone (friend, family member) usually hosts. If nobody has offered, it's okay to nudge. Share the registry link early so guests have time to shop.
Crib, dresser, glider — if these aren't ordered yet, do it this week. You want everything delivered and assembled by week 34 at the latest, and shipping delays happen.

Chicco KeyFit 35 Infant Car Seat
Consistently top-rated for safety and ease of installation. Compatible with many stroller frames. The base stays in the car; the seat clicks in and out for portability.

White noise machine with a night light and okay-to-wake feature. You'll use this from day one through toddlerhood. Controlled via app so you never have to sneak into the room.
Week 19 is a natural inflection point in pregnancy planning. With the anatomy scan complete and (often) the sex revealed, the registry and nursery plans crystallize. A complete baby registry covers five categories: sleep (crib, bassinet, mattress, sheets, swaddles, sound machine), feeding (bottles, breast pump, nursing pillow, formula), diapering (diapers, wipes, changing pad, diaper pail), gear (car seat, stroller, carrier), and clothing (newborn and 0–3 month sizes).
For dads, the registry is a project you can own. Research the high-stakes items (car seat, crib, monitor), compare options, and make recommendations. This is one of the most practical ways to contribute during pregnancy.
